Adventurers supports a variety of projects dedicated to conserving, regenerating, and protecting the biodiversity of Aotearoa New Zealand.

As the climate crisis intensifies, it’s more important than ever to help our natural environment thrive. A healthy ecosystem can mitigate rising temperatures, buffer against extreme weather events, and sequester carbon emissions.

Travel, particularly flights and car journeys, can significantly increase our carbon footprint. At Adventurers, we are conscious of the environmental impact that tourism brings to Aotearoa New Zealand. To help offset these effects, we are actively involved in several environmental initiatives.

Regenerating Forest

We are facilitating the regeneration of 47 hectares of scrubland into a thriving forest ecosystem on Banks Peninsula. Adjacent to the renowned Hinewai Reserve, this land contributes to the expanding network of regenerating forests across the peninsula. We are also proud to support and be part of the Pest Free Banks Peninsula possum suppression zone.

Invasive Weed Control

We are working to control invasive weeds in the native forest around Lake Tarawera by organising volunteer working bees and by reducing the impact of invasive honeysuckle, we give native plants a chance to recover from being smothered by this aggressive species, which can cause canopy collapse. We also organise pest control by distributing rat and possum traps and ensuring that they are regularly checked. Take a look at some of the project work at Pest and Weed Free Tarawera here.

Wilding Pine Control

We also support the Wildling Pines control in the Mackenzie District, by donating $20 per Alps 2 Ocean Itinerary to Wilding Free Mackenzie Trust. Wilding Pines are a huge invasive weed problem in New Zealand, especially in the Mackenzie country. They take over native ecosystems and are a huge increased wildfire risk.
